Historic + Adaptive Reuse Work
Buckingham Village III
This project involves the renovation of 140 historic garden style multifamily housing units with extensive tenant engagement. The renovation provides fully-upgraded units, sensitively-located additions to increase the number of bedrooms at at many units, while preserving the property’s historic character as one of the first garden-style apartment projects in the country. The renovation also meets Virginia’s EarthCraft program standards for sustainable design, including 15% energy efficiency improvements, healthy living upgrades, and sustainable site improvements. To provide a new community center on a site where none exists and where historic reviewers would not allow new free-standing construction, a large abandoned boiler room is to be renovated into community spaces.
